One song from #Bastille mentioned that our flaws made us who we are and without it we will be doomed. Listen to their acoustic version of “Flaws” and hear/feel it your self, it is a beautifully written song. Then, imagine what if we people does not have flaws. What if we are all born perfect? What if there is not an inch of ugliness from anyone physically and emotionally? I’ll leave it to you to ponder. Below are collection of unique doors gathered from Morocco (Chefchaouen, Fez, Essaouira) and Andalusia, Espana. Notice what makes them one of a kind. It is their flaws. Every door is beautifully flawed from everything that surrounds them. Each of it are molded and designed based on culture, nature, weather and by their maker. Like us people. Each of us has inherited flaws from our parents and ancestors. None of us are made to choose what kind of beings we are going to be. Nature, culture and the cycle of life made us who we are. Our differences and faults …
At the age of 21 where most normal guy officially reach physical adulthood, my body stopped from growing at 5’6 tall. By then, I knew I cannot make it as a supermodel like I dreamed of and travel around the world for free. Being just dark, handsome and disappointed, I had to think of something else to do with my life. The door to becoming a supermodel has closed (It was never open for me anyway, I realized that ten years later). Thank god I am actually smart and talented I never knew. Whew! Ten years later, I have encountered countless doors and windows of opportunities I never thought would open and close for me during my early until late twenties. From desktop publishing to design agency. I’m now a Graphic Designer (wow), but my current company entitled me as the Digital & Creative Lead… because they cannot promote me into something else (that sounds better and more expensive though). I currently work as the in-house designer in a company that requires corporate branding and …

INSIDE JOB: Advertising Photography Photography is the single most important element of most advertising campaigns. While copywriters may spend hours producing an eye-catching headline and copy that well introduce the product/brand, it’s the image that first attracts the viewer. It’s also the last thing the viewer usually remembers after turning the page. It is now photography vs illustration in the world of advertising. As they say picture is worth a thousand words, in advertising a picture must explain or at least directly reflect the brand/product in a full impact. Here, I am sharing my previous in-house job showcasing the use of photography in advertising. Blog post by John Robert Ramos. We own copyright for images used.
I just woke up one day when I decided to take picture of myself wearing my everyday working clothes to work. And over the year I have collected not only tons of lookbook photos but also memories from 2012. The places where I took the photos and friends who are very patience taking multiple shots of myself posing until I am satisfied with the look. Thanks to my tripod, to Jemma, Namal, Aireen, Kabbie, and specially to my buddy Sandra Essa who took most of my gorgeous photos from the past 4 months. Photos below are mostly taken with the use of my HTC mobile phone and iPad 3 with 5 megapixels processed by Instagram. So here are my selected collections from 2012. All images used are owned by John Robert Ramos.
I made few cinemagraphs of Sheikh Zayed road just to have my own version of trending animated photography. Yey! Cinemagraphs are still photographs in which a minor and repeated movement occurs. Cinemagraphs, which are usually published in an animated GIF format, can give the illusion that the viewer is watching a video. They are commonly produced by taking a series of photographs or a video recording, and, using image editing software, compositing the photographs or the video frames into a seamless loop of sequential frames, often using the animated GIF file format in such a manner that motion in part of the subject between exposures (for example, a person’s dangling leg) is perceived as a repeating or continued motion, in contrast with the stillness of the rest of the image. The term “cinemagraph” was coined by U.S. photographers Kevin Burg and Jamie Beck, who used the technique to animate their fashion and news photographs beginning in early 2011. Cinemagraphs posted above are all created by John Robert Ramos. Below are few samples of beautiful cinemagraphs from http://cinemagraphs.com

Innocence is Bliss. Taking photograph of a child is one of the most difficult… no, because they don’t need to act happy or sad or blissful. It comes naturally with their innocence. It is difficult… yes, when you have to force them to smile for the camera. The trick is make them play and enjoy what they are doing. This series of photos are taken with consent of her parents for her 7th birthday. I provided all the props, settings, and photography direction. Photos taken by John Robert Ramos

One friday morning. Just me.
Thursday morning, while I’m in between jobs for weeks now (in a good way) for the first time after long months of extreme summer here in Dubai I finally made it to my favorite Mamzar beach where the water is smooth as silk and quiet like a lake. (Yah, I know this beach is unusual, not for surfers but good for swimming lapses and sun worshippers. FYI, Mamzar beach shoreline is manmade. Oh yeh!) So there I went by 8am (because it opens to public by that time) then left after 2 hours to save my self from skin cancer. I went to shop for a new swim shorts at River Island the night before and there I almost hoard those items on sale. Not proud but I’m a compulsive shopper. Back to River Island, I found great collection of printed swim short that are similar from my another favorite online store Mr Porter. Short swimming shorts are the trends for men specially the printed designs mostly vintage graphics or patterned. Here are some collection …
This is how we spend leisure time, fashion photography. Simple and ordinary settings yet fabulous result. Jemmalyn Soriano, the Diva, my high school friend and almost a family has been shooting ever since. She is my very first photography muse. I thought of doing more fashion photography as I have a great feeling that one day I will make it as an art director or director of photography in fashion editorials. So I will keep on producing and taking photos. Photographer: John Robert Ramos Clothes, Shoes, Accessories, Hair & Make-Up all by her self, Jemmalyn Soriano Location: Our terrace
I spent my Sunday taking photos of a friend who’s behind “Postura Style” Ms. Rona Kathrina. “Postura Style is an online fashion boutique based in Dubai. They offer a unique, classic, feminine, edgy collection with quality and affordable prices that you will surely love.”- www.posturastyle.blogspot.com She is selling her stuff thru Facebook page where you can find her selections of women clothing for now. Her bright collection reflects a classy, chic and very feminine woman. Price ranging from AED 50 to 150. We ate Krispe Kreme from the beginning up to end of the day. LOVE! At first, I didn’t really have a concept for this fun shoot but as we go on finding the right corner of their apartment unit at Dubai Marina’s one of the tallest residential tower, all we’ve got are the heights, the summer wind and the sunlight. Not just proper lighting coming from the daylight but lights brighter than sunshine and I love it. Since I’m a fan of natural lighting photography it always works for me. Given that I am not a professional …

Just another early from work shoot. Getting used with the grainy natural effect from my 5mp phone camera since the super humid weather in Dubai doesn’t allow my slr camera to go out in the air. Please play the music below while browsing this post. San Pedro, Laguna where my heart and family lives. I love this place more than Santa Mesa, Manila where I grew up and went to college. San Pedro is our new found home since 2005, my hidden paradise. I wish I could take more photos every morning when I go over the hills to chase the sunshine and sweat. I wish I can go home and watch the sunrise ’till it goes down to my feet. Just home and do nothing. Photos here are taken by my old phone camera and Olympus Digital camera years ago (4 yrs back or so). Pixels aren’t great but the framed memories are gold. One summer evening before the sunset, that’s 6:30 pm in Dubai. The sun was still up until 7:10 pm. High humidity (almost damp) with outstanding temperature in the wind. Yes we did, just right after work. After posting “Let’s Pull & Bear” I went to visit Pull&Bear in Deira City Centre and took some stuff. I am very lucky to find this limited edition vintage canvas bag with a genuine leather strap. A staff on the cash counter told me that I just purchased a high quality product, its very strong and will outlast. Anyone can tell that it is indeed look tough even the trousers with a label tagline saying “Stronger than ever”. Pull and Bear is a Spanish clothing and accessories retailer based in Narón, Galicia and founded in 1991. The company began to sell through an online store in September 2011. Here in Dubai you can find them at Deira City Centre, Dubai Mall, Mercato and Mall of the Emirates. Top: Photo Edition Shirt not from P&B but from Bershka. Carrot fit …
I know its a bit late to feature a spring/summer collection, but hey I’m in a place where we have 365 days of sunshine (almost). This campaign ad on a beach in Cuba where they use classic sepia kind of photography and videography took my attention. Pull&Bear – SS 2012 Campaign – Here Comes The Light, featuring Dorte, Mariana Santana, Florian Van Bael, Tom Lander and the famous Brazilian model Marlon Teixeira. Music by “Lay Your Head Down” by Keren Ann. www.kerenann.com I’ll make sure to visit Pull&Bear tomorrow and check out the store at Deira City Centre or Dubai Mall.
