Where I’ve been

Splash Winter Wonderland

“Welcome to the 75th Hunger Games!.. And may the odds be ever in your favor!” -Effie Trinket I’m currently reading Hunger Games Book 2 and that is how I could describe the previous Splash Autumn/Winter Royale Fashion Show held at Madinat Arena, Jumeirah on September 22, 2012. Just like the people from the Capitol of Panem, flamboyant, glamorous and surreal. And just like Katniss, I find it too much. I made a lot of laugh all night though I am not the kind of person who introduce my self first (I am antisocial), I am the observer who look at everyones face and see the whole event in multiple perspective. It wasn’t boring at all in fact it was extravagant from the red carpet to the late after party. Here comes the sartorial folks… Spike and studs galore! Blog post and images by John Robert Ramos. I hope you don’t mind folks. Advertisements

Thursday morning, while I’m in between jobs for weeks now (in a good way) for the first time after long months of extreme summer here in Dubai I finally made it to my favorite Mamzar beach where the water is smooth as silk and quiet like a lake. (Yah, I know this beach is unusual, not for surfers but good for swimming lapses and sun worshippers. FYI, Mamzar beach shoreline is manmade. Oh yeh!) So there I went by 8am (because it opens to public by that time) then left after 2 hours to save my self from skin cancer. I went to shop for a new swim shorts at River Island the night before and there I almost hoard those items on sale. Not proud but I’m a compulsive shopper. Back to River Island, I found great collection of printed swim short that are similar from my another favorite online store Mr Porter. Short swimming shorts are the trends for men specially the printed designs mostly vintage graphics or patterned. Here are some collection …

MEN’S WEAR: The Lomo Heat

One summer evening before the sunset, that’s 6:30 pm in Dubai. The sun was still up until 7:10 pm. High humidity (almost damp) with outstanding temperature in the wind. Yes we did, just right after work. After posting “Let’s Pull & Bear” I went to visit Pull&Bear in Deira City Centre and took some stuff. I am very lucky to find this limited edition vintage canvas bag with a genuine leather strap. A staff on the cash counter told me that I just purchased a high quality product, its very strong and will outlast. Anyone can tell that it is indeed look tough even the trousers with a label tagline saying “Stronger than ever”. Pull and Bear is a Spanish clothing and accessories retailer based in Narón, Galicia and founded in 1991. The company began to sell through an online store in September 2011. Here in Dubai you can find them at Deira City Centre, Dubai Mall, Mercato and Mall of the Emirates. Top: Photo Edition Shirt not from P&B but from Bershka. Carrot fit …

MUSIC: Somewhere Over the Rainbow

I’ve never seen a rainbow here in Dubai, UAE. Not sure if the nature forbid itself to show a beautiful spectrum of light over the desert or its just not possible in this kind of climate. I guess I really miss San Pedro, Laguna my luscious green hilly home town where you can find the rainbow after the rain or in the orange afternoon. I found a new rendition of my favorite song. A song very close to my hearth, a song I’ve sung a hundred times… Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Here I am sharing the beautiful music. The instrumental rendition by The Piano Guys. Here below is the original version by Judy Garland from Wizard of Oz. I hope you’ll enjoy the music from The Piano Guys like I do and support them by buying the music online. Post by: John Robert Ramos Image Credit: My own altered photo of rainbow in Deira, Dubai.

New building, new neighborhood, new space, new view, new chairs, new background for my shoots. I relocated at TECOM, Dubai where there is a Metro station at the foot of my building (awesome). Great view from the 25th floor overseing Dubai Internet City, Media City, Jumeira Lakes Towers, The Palm and sands storm mostly.

MAY ’11 INSIDE JOB: POS & Sale Banners

MAY ’11 INSIDE JOB: POS & Banners Retail industry like us will not survive without monthly promotion or sale. Here I came up with floral typography jiving with the trend in fashion for summer. Our own Ad agency also provided the same theme for all above the line marketing collaterals. Huge Q sale banner in Oasis Centre, Shiekh Zayed, Dubai Q Sale banner behind Dubai Mall. Below are the creatives in English and Arabic. ATL creative from our Ad agency.

Book day at Kinokuniya Dubai

Book day at Kinokuniya Dubai Where can you get amazing stuff for free these days? At Kinokuniya Bookstore, the largest book store in Dubai (i believe). The store in Dubai Mall is a massive 68,000 square feet paragon book gallery which stocks more than a half million books  and a thousand magazines in English; Arabic; Japanese; French; German and Chinese at any given time. Its one perfect sunny day in Dubai made more fun by having free Marvel and DC comic books at Kinokuniya’s “Free Comic Book Day”. It is obviously another creative marketing strategy because the free comic books are located at Anime/Manga Books section with expensive iconic comic, anime, scifi and cartoon action figures displayed around. Free and decent comic books I had/hoard: After hoarding 2 copies of each comic books that they had plus 2 tiny key chain in a box, I have no choice but to buy a book just to have a plastic bag for all stuff in may hand. I saw “Yotsuba” series of comic novels. From all the morbid, bloody, hardcore …

Al Ain Zoo ala Wild Africa

February 5, 2011, Saturday. Taking advantage of the cool nice weather in UAE. From Dubai taking a bus ride from Al Ghubaiba Station to Al Ain town center took two hours and another 20 minutes taxi ride going to the zoo. Traveling alone with my camera as usual. Its been a long time since I went to visit wild animals triggered by an inspiring african wildlife photo that I have seen from a local newspaper. Then I said, “I have to be in that picture”. So here they are. Almost like a wild safari tour in Africa. I love the feeling inside the zoo, I love the connection with these rare animals. One day they will be gone but hopefully not. The wild under construction: You can visit Al Ain zoo website to find more interesting information about the Wild.
